Mike Taylor grew up in Bedford, later moving to Alberta, where he was a member of the Calgary Police Service until 1985, returning to Nova Scotia and attending Dalhousie Law School. After being called to the Bar in 1991, he practiced with Nova Scotia Legal Aid, first in Bridgewater, then in Dartmouth, where his sole area of practice was Criminal Defence law. Mike then entered private practice with Pink Murray Graham (later Joel Pink and Associates) in 1999, and began practicing personal injury and general litigation law along with his Criminal Defence practice. In 2006, he joined Presse Mason as an associate, and continues to practice Criminal Defence, personal injury, and litigation law. Mike is the past President of the Nova Scotia Criminal Lawyers’ Association. He has appeared in all levels of Court in Nova Scotia, and in the Supreme Court of Canada. Mike currently represents many former students of Indian Residential Schools from all over the Atlantic Provinces and the Eastern United States. He is assisting them in advancing claims for abuse through the Indian residential Schools Resolution Canada compensation process.
